Wild Cards! 3/9/15

Special Pi Day Edition!

Today’s Wild Cards (and VERSE, as you saw) have a Pi Day focus to them (though there are non-Pi-related entries as well!!).  This coming Saturday – besides being Einstein’s birthday! – will be the Pi Day of the Century, and we should celebrate! Especially at 9:26:53 that day! For more elaboration and information on this SPECIAL Pi Day, see Pi Day of the Century!

Cartoons of the Week  How can a Halloween cartoon help celebrate Pi Day?!  Very nicely.  We could title this one Pumpkin Pi!  🙂  Click the link to the left!

More FoxTrot Pi Cartoons!  Fox Trot is one of the few cartoons that deals with ‘mathy’ topics in both quite funny and quite clever ways.  They’re funny for ALL – math geeks or not. Here are THREE other Fox Trot cartoons in honor of Pi Day!  The last one is particularly clever, if you ask me!  Click FoxTrot & Pi 2.

More Fun Pi Stuff 🙂 Don’t want to over-do it (too late?! :-)), but the Pi Day of the Century only comes alone ONCE in most of our lifetimes! So, . . .

*  For a random collection of other PI cartoons, see More Pi Cartoons.  (The last one is a rather clever re-working of the overworked pi/pie joke.)

*  To see an interesting/fun Pi Trivia Quiz, click the red link at left.  Answers  next week.  (Feel free to submit answers this week, if you know them, and we’ll give credit.)

*  For a couple of my favorite Pi Jokes/Riddles, click the red link.

*  To see the MARVELOUS Pi Day t-shirt sent to me by subscribers Terry & Teresa Goodman, see Pi Day of Century Shirt.

(Non-PI) Brain Teasers  Here’s another collection of ‘normal’  Brain Teasers.  I think there’s a nice mixture of difficulties and topics for all.  See BT 15-5.

Rolla Rotary Club!  Just this previous Friday (Mar 6), I traveled to Rolla, MO, and spoke to their Rolla Rotary Club.  The topic was Interesting (and Weird) Mathematicians and Stories about Them.  What fun, and what a great group!!  They were very nice to me (though they may have put me into the same category as the title :-)), and I enjoyed it immensely.  If you need a speaker for your group, let me know – it’s (almost always) free, and I enjoy doing it.

New Features in AME  I mention the above, partly because I had such fun, and partly because it makes a great segue into the new AME features we’re discussing in March! Visiting civic/community groups is just one of the new features.  To see more, visit the website and scroll to the bottom (March Focus Feature) or click this link:  New March Features.  (Using the link may be hard to read, as I have to use YELLOW some places to get it to show up on the website.)  Be sure to note our new Facebook page!!  Check it out, and “Like” it!  🙂
