Wild Cards! July 22, 2024

Krazy Pic 1  One has to be a little careful on escalators, so I can understand some RULES for them.  I think we could have predicted almost all of these (but one?)

Krazy Pic 2  And I guess I understand pedestrian safety.  But I still have some questions.

Cartoon of the Week  Time for another visit to our outrageous friend HERMAN:  Today, he’s visiting the eye doctor.

Curiosity of the Week  They usually say a ‘dog year’ is roughly 7 human years.  In that case, this Australian cattle dog lived the rough equivalent of over 200 human years!  (You can also learn of another inaccuracy in our last claim.)

Yesterday’s Date in History  Yesterday was certainly a historic day for the Presidency.  Here are some other things that happened on July 21.

Today’s Date in History  Since we normally pull out the date in history for the day the Mailing goes out . . . Here are some things that happened on July 22.

Birthday Fun Prize Update  Well, it turns out Rita Barger has indeed won all the prizes I have to offer (except the red Porsche, and she didn’t like that color), so she magnanimously suggested that she pass on winning and that I make another drawing.  So, I dragged out the random number generator from the storeroom, and got it started on the third try.  Eventually, it sputtered out a number, and the new winner is Christina Capstick!  Congrats to Christina (who wins the second Spitballs book), and thanks to Rita.  (One last look at the fun we had last year.  Maybe we’ll do it again in another half-decade or so?!)

August Birthdays!  How can it be nearly August??  Here are the (known) birthdays of August subscribers.

Pesky Puzzler 24.12  Our last Puzzler involved some Presidential history centered around the 22nd and 24th Presidents.  Did you know the answer?  You can see it here. Correct solutions were submitted by Frank Green, Rita Barger, and Carmen Tieskotter.

Pesky Puzzler 24.13  Today’s ‘normal’ Puzzler is a Tripleheader, so you have some choice.  But since we’re into Presidential history today, here’s a BONUS: (Answering it counts as a solution!)  Who’s the only sitting President who was pulled over for exceeding the Washington, DC speed limit . . . on a horse?!?!
