Memorial Day Cartoon: Remember our Memorial Day Peanuts Cartoon from last time? I called attention to what I thought was a minor mystery in the the third panel. (And the speaker was Sally, not Lucy!). Four readers reminded me that Memorial Day used to be Decoration Day and was celebrated uniformly on May 30 until the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, passed in 1971, which cleared up the mystery. (I’m definitely old enough to remember that, but I’m also old enough to have forgotten that!) Thanks to Christine P, Barb B, Liz T, and Anita D.
Curiosity: Great Wall It is apparently commonly thought (even by my source!) that The Great Wall of China is visible from space, and is the only such object. Liz Tidwell sent along a Scientific American article that debunks this. See it here: Great Wall. Thanks, Liz!
