Wild Cards – June 9, 2025

Krazy Pic 1  If you’re familiar with The Princess Bride (and who isn’t, perhaps?), you’ll be familiar with  the line “I do not think you know the meaning of that word.”  That’s the feeling I get here.

Krazy Pic 2  Table for two?  Excellent view, I’ll grant you. But I don’t think my stomach  and I would be in the mood to eat!

Cartoon of the Week  This week’s cartoon shows a little-known peril of owning a pet!

Curiosity of the Week  I know, I know – everything’s bigger in Texas.  But prairie dog towns?!  This just boggles the imagination!

Isn’t Math Wonderful?  A couple of Mailings ago, two of the Puzzlers included questions about fractions between fractions (PP25.8, #4 & 5).  I promised to provide more information, so it’s time to make good on that promise.  Fractions between fractions?  Here are some of the fun and fascinating facts!

Pesky Puzzlers  Have I goofed?  I know Christine Porter and Rita Barger submitted correct solutions to the previous set of puzzlers, but I thought there was a 3rd one – did I miss someone?  If so, sorry! – and please let me know.  ANYWAY, this week’s Puzzler has a  fun, never-before-tried wrinkle which guarantees you’ll get at least one Puzzler right!! (see #5)  Clicking this link will also show you previous solutions, as well.

Give Feedback/Input – Win $36!  I’m gearing up to make some (mostly minor, I think?) updates & changes to my website (and maybe my FB page?).  And it dawns on me that it would help me to have input from different pairs of eyes – namely those who might visit (or have visited)!  In order to encourage this help, I’ve scrounged all the pocket change from the couch cushions, under the car seats, etc, and I’m willing to award a gift card worth $36 (the square of a perfect number!) – and other prizes – to some lucky suggestion-givers.  See all the details here  and (now or later), go to my website (or FB page), and start providing input!

Book Recommendations? Somewhat along those lines (but not entirely), I’m thinking of starting a semi-regular (monthly, quarterly?) feature of sharing book recommendations. (Why?  Well, it’ll be fun. I  know Pat and I are always looking for good books to read and we enjoy recommendations from folks we trust.)  Would you glance at such a feature? Include that in your input above, and it’ll count as an entry.  See my first recommendation here.
