Wild Cards! – Jan 27, 2025

Krazy Pic 1  I have a sneaking suspicion this might be photo-shopped.  But if not,  I see some very  interesting soccer games ahead!

Krazy Pic 2 Folks seemed to enjoy the ‘crazy snow sculptures’ last time.  Are you ready for another one?

Cartoon of the Week  How about a cartoon for upcoming Ground Hog Day?!  A tiny touch of political satire here, but it’s kind of a funny point.

Curiosity of the Week (and Bonus!)  Major League baseball pitchers are usually notoriously poor hitters.  It is quite rare for them to hit a home run.  Hoyt Wilhelm was a famous knuckleball pitcher from 1952 – 72.  His career home run record actually contains TWO amazing curiosities!  The first is rare, especially for a pitcher.  The second is rare, even for a pitcher!  Check out this DOUBLE curiosity!

Today in History – Lite Version  A slightly different variation on this theme.  Lesser-known-but-still-interesting events (“first locomotive to pull 1,000,000 pounds”, e.g.) that might not make a more serious list, but that also occurred on Jan 27.

Pesky Puzzlers Well, this is somewhat surprising. We didn’t get any takers for this year’s first set of puzzlers!  (We don’t ever get many, that’s true, but . . .).  And I thought these were a fun variety of mini-challenges!  So, I’ve added a new puzzler and will let these five now stand for another round.  Check them out here – and don’t miss out on the fun!     BREAKING!!  Amy Ragsdale submitted solutions after this was written.  I’ll update in the next Mailing.

February Birthdays  We’re into February in less than a week!  Here is the collection of subscribers’ birthdays in February (that we know of!)
