Krazy Pics 1 & 2  Remember our recent ‘church bulletin board’ Krazy Pics?  Here are a couple more to start the year: KP#1:  I’m sure our friends in St. Louis might feel this way!    And, KP#2: perhaps there’s hope for all of us!

Krazy Pic 3 A BONUS to start the year:  Do I need a fast-parking permit?

One-Liners An extended family gathering over the Holidays featured a sort of linguistic ‘chicken’ game.  The goal was to fire one-liners at each other, trying to provoke a smile/laugh in your opponent, while avoiding the same for yourself.  I found some good ones for my ammo, so (after editing out the racy ones), I thought I’d share my list.  (Though I didn’t use it at the gathering, I think my favorite is #7, primarily for it’s under-stated humor [that I almost missed]!)

Carl Sandburg on Arithmetic  I’d seen some of these before separately, but had not realized that it’s apparently a whole poem on Arithmetic. Its (rhyme-less) humor verbalizes the frustration of many non-mathy folks!  And the link has bio info on Sandburg also.  (Thanks to reader Michael Bramer for sending it along.)

January Facts & Trivia Here’s a baker’s dozen of Facts/Trivia For Month of January

January Birthdays We’re getting a late start here, but these are the January subscriber birthdays – at least the ones we know of.  (Some of you aren’t filling us in – and you’re missing out!  🙂 )

Brain Teasers New and Old  Due to the one-month layoff in December, we’ll give you the best of both BT worlds in January.  The Nov/Dec ’18 BTs will be extended for one month – you can submit solutions on them through January. And, we’ll also start the Jan/Feb ’19 BTs as well.  So, have fun this month then!  Pick either/both sets and submit your solutions!!

Column Catch-Ups It turns out there are actually a dozen or so of you who actually read the education column posts each mailing (!), so I’ll make an attempt to get the Dec columns posted as well. I’ll do this two at a time, and bookend them (most/least recent) until we catch up.

And Rotate the Tires, Too!  An old local op-ed piece cleverly compared being a ‘professional educator’ as opposed to an ‘educational technician’, like an auto technician.  Naturally, that inspired some thoughts.  Appeared on January 10.

Another Three-Part Detour I had another topic planned for this week until three education-related tidbits intruded all at once!  Appeared on December 13.

Quote for the Week

“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.”
