Wild Cards – 11/10/14

1.  Sweepstakes winners – WOW!!  The OktoberFest Sweepstakes Drawing was held last week, and Steve and Bobbi Kneeshaw of Branson hit the jackpot BIG TIME!!  On the first drawing, Steve won the first free night at Savannah House in Branson.  On the second drawing, his wife Bobbi won the second free night!!!  (What are the odds you say?   See #1.5 below.)  For a list of ALL prizes and winners, see Sweepstakes Prizes and Winners.  For details on the Drawing Logistics, click the link.

1.5  What are the odds?!?  How unlikely was it that the Kneeshaws would win both Grand Prizes?  I was curious and did a little figuring (isn’t math wonderful?).  Given the rules of the drawing (only 1 prize per subscriber), it turns out that the chances are roughly 1 in 637.   That translates into odds of 636 to 1.  (For a look at the details and the mathematics involved, visit Sweepstakes Calculations though I suspect only the ‘math geeks’ will be interested, if even them. :-))

 2. Christmas Gift Ideas  Throughout November, we are offering great ideas and special deals to help with your Christmas shopping.  Don’t forget:  Anything ordered in November gets FREE shipping/delivery.  Be sure to visit Christmas Gift Ideasand/or see this week’s feature:  Photo Note Cards.

3.  You Can’t Come to Work Because . . WHY?!  Last week’s issue of TIME Magazine had a humorous sidebar on real excuses folks have used for not showing up for work.  To see their 5 favorites, visit REALLY?

 4.  Krazy Pic 7 – One Liners Invited!!  I hadn’t posted this pic yet, partly because there are just too many clever (smart-aleck?)  responses sitting there, and I couldn’t narrow it to one.  So, why not open it up to you clever subscribers?!  🙂  I took this picture myself in New Zealand back in 2008.  (I hit the brakes quickly and came back to see if I read it right – and to get the picture!!)   Take a look at this Krazy Pic  and see if 3 or 4 responses don’t occur to you immediately.  If so, feel free to share any of them in the Comment section, and let’s keep each other amused all week!!  I’ll start it off . . . . wait! . . . no, I won’t.  I may add my own line(s) later in the week, but let’s see what’s out there first.  🙂

5.  Brain Teasers (with extra time)  Let’s try something new:  Here are some new brain teasers, but you can have TWO weeks to work on them.  Answers (for recognition) won’t be ‘due’ until next Thursday (11/20)!!  There are more BTs this time and there are some easy (and tricky) ones, as well as non-math ones!  If nothing else, you should check these out just to find a marvelous reason to celebrate on this Thursday!!  Check them out!! See BTs#9.
