Photo of the Week – April 25, 2016

Buda.Pest.edit

Budapest, Hungary

This photo features  one of the most fascinating features of Budapest – the differences in its topography and its architecture.  This current European capital – with the Danube running through it – was formed in 1873 by the unification of Buda (and Obuda) on the near (western) bank and Pest  on the far bank.  The Buda side is smaller, more hilly, generally more residential, and considerably different architecturally than the Pest side, which is situated on a flat plain.

This photo is also just upriver from the famous Chain Bridge, which was featured in the 6/30/14 Photo of the Week. To revisit that shot, see Budapest2.
