June 9, 2025: My Friends, by Fredrik Backman.
Perhaps you’re familiar with Backman’s books (A Man Called Ove, Ordinary Persons, Britt-Marie Was Here, and several others). An excellent writer.
This is Backman’s latest book, and may have made it into my Top 5 Favorite Books List. An amazing story of band of 4 teenagers, all outcasts in their own way, who spend a 14-year-old summer together, and how that summer affects their lives. Simultaneously touching, heartbreaking, and often hilariously funny (in a way that co-exists perfectly), it is full of ingenious twists and turns -mostly unexpected – with distinct a love-of-art melody always playing in the background. And all the while the writing is exceptional. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll close the book and ponder when finished.

I would love book recommendations! If you’re looking for a series to relax with, Jan Karon’s Mitford series is wonderful. There are currently 14 in the series, with a new novel coming out in October. You’ll laugh and cry with the folks in this fictional town. Christian based. We’ve read them three times through!
