A recent Pesky Puzzler (24.16) pitched out the creative challenge to write a limerick with a first line of “An apple, two grapes and a pear”. Here are the various submissions (including my own feeble try, with a slightly altered first line.)
Submission from Connie Dewey
An apple, two grapes and a pear,
Rolled down the street without care,
Until they both saw
A little brown paw,
That belonged to a fruit-eating bear!
Submission from Allan Schilter
An apple, two grapes, and a pear
Were arranged with such delicate care
But a child came by
With a gleam in his eye
And devoured the fruit then and there
Submission from Carmen Tieskotter
An apple, two grapes, and a pear
Were the snacks I took to the fair
Healthy eating is a bore
When there’s fried food galore
So I came home with my apple, two grapes, and a pear
Attempt from Larry Campbell
A couple of grapes and a pear
Were judged at the Kansas State Fair.
The pear was okay,
But the grapes got an A!
So the pear was outshone by the pair.
