Special Math Dates in 2024

(Some) SPECIAL MATH DATES IN 2024

Here are just a few (see #5) of the mathematically special dates in 2024.  Some of passed already, but many are still ahead of us.  I hope you’ll have fun celebrating them – I know I will!

1.  March 14 – Pi Day:  We might as well start with the most widely-known ‘math day’ of each year!  As you may remember, the common decimal approximation for pi is 3.14.  So March 14 (3/14) (which also happens to be Einstein’s birthday! :-))  is called Pi Day and is actually celebrated every year. (Various schools and classes go all out for this!)

2.  Jan 24 (1/24), Feb 12 (12/2), Mar 8 (3/8), April 6 (4/6), June 4 (6/4), Aug 3 (8/3), and Dec 2 (12/2)Year-Product Days:   You may recall that these were discussed in more detail in this Section back in JanuaryThis is the ONLY year this century with SEVEN Year-Product Days!!  Celebrate responsibly! 🙂

3. December 18 – Consecutive Multiples of 6 Day:    That day – 12/18/24 – is composed of three consecutive multiples of 6.  We haven’t had one of these since June 12, 2018, and there are no more this century!

4.  August 16 – Consecutive Multiples of 8 Day:  That day – 8/16/24 – is composed of three consecutive multiples of 8, and it is the only such date this century.

5.  April 20 – April 29  Palindrome Days  (Examples:  4/20/24, 4/21/24, . . .)

6.  June 28 – The BEST mathematical day each year!  At least it’s MY favorite numerical day each year.  There are TWO reasons to celebrate 6/28, each one significant!

A.  6/28 is 2-PI Day (Take 3.14 or 3/14, and double each number).  Note that there is no 3-PI Day or any other similar multiple.  (Why?)

B.  6/28 is the only day each year where the month (6) and day (28) are different perfect numbers!!  (For a quick review of perfect numbers, visit Perfect Numbers.

7.  Over 300 others!  I’ve probably mentioned that I happen to believe every day is mathematically special. OFFER: If you’re so inclined, send in your birthday (month/day only :-)) – or any other favorite date, and I’ll let you know one reason why it’s special!  🙂  [I’ll respond directly and perhaps  -with your permission – list it and the reason and others in the next mailing.]
