Some weeks back, one of the Brain Teasers asked what was unique about a given paragraph. Turns out the paragraph did not contain the letter ‘e’ at all! That got me to thinking, and I began to wonder what other fun ‘word’ challenges we could cook up on our own!!
I’ll start with THREE challenges below, but I’d love to throw in others, suggested by any of our subscribers!! So take a crack at these and/or send in your own!!
You’ll have at least a couple of week to work on these – more details to follow. And we’ll share some of the better entries! Should we have prizes?
Creativity Challenge #1:
What’s the best/longest paragraph you can come up with that does not contain the letter ‘a’? (I secretly did my own first attempt at this in the 3/16 Wild Card Page! 🙂 See below*.) What about omitting the letter ‘o’ – would that be harder/easier?
Creativity Challenge #2:
What’s the best** sentence you can create, in which every word in the paragraph starts with the same letter? Or maybe even paragraph built the same way? (Not sure what the hardest/easiest letter would be for this.)
** “Umberto uttered ‘ugly, ugly, ugly, . . .’ ” might make a LONG, but not-so-creative sentence!
My own first weak attempt: Bobby Bales bit brother Bertrand Bales, but Bertrand bit back, badly bothering both Bales boys!
Creativity Challenge #3:
What’s the longest sentence/paragraph you can create, in which each of the words is the next letter in the alphabet? (Starting with ‘a’, is better, maybe? But starting anywhere could be fun, too.)
Examples: Al Brothers cooked duck each Friday, gladly.
Had Ingemar just known, Lonnie might never orate publicly.
Here’s the paragraph I put in as a Wild Card last week. I don’t think it has any ‘a’s:
We promised this new goodie this month, too. Be looking for unique sets of twister-like jobs for those of you/us who love to tinker with words like some of us love to tinker with numbers! Coming soon!!
