After 2.5 years and 4 shots (including the latest booster three weeks ago!), my luck ran out and I tested positve for Covid last Monday (10/10). The symptoms were relatively mild – though NOT absent – and I’m feeling much better now. I’m hoping Pat will let me out of my downstairs quarantine in a day or so!
Krazy Pic 1 On the one hand . . . There appears to be no question this guy is in the right department! The question is, has he made it in time?! 🙂
Krazy Pic 2 On the other hand . . . Perhaps the guy above could adopt this gentleman’s strategy, which appears to border on over-prepared!
Cartoon of the Week It’s that time of the year, so our good friends Calvin and Hobbes are discussing their Halloween costume ideas. As usual, Calvin is being onery.
Amazing Location of the Week Autumn is a great time to show this picture of this beautiful location. See an amazing location made richer by the colors in New York’s Letchworth State Park. (Later: I thought this looked/sounded familiar! Sure enough, I posted a similar shot back in July. Rather than post a new location, I’ll just re-post that slightly different view of the same Park.) (Hard to say, but I think I like the latest post better. You?)
And, in OffBeat News . . . How would you like to find a rattlesnake in your house? What if it turned out to be “only” a non-venomous “pet” python, and you were offered the chance to keep it?!
Brain Teasers I think I goofed last time. I made all 4 BTs rather ‘mathy’, and I don’t usually like to do that. Four new BTs this time, and I’ve gone almost the opposite direction. So, everyone should now find something that grabs them. Have fun!
Correct Answers and Student Understanding Obviously, an important goal at all levels of education is students’ authentic understanding of concepts. Usually we equate correct answers on tests with understanding, but is that always reliable? My own experiences from my fourth grade classroom illustrate the problem, and (of course) bring up other thoughts. These approximate thoughts first appeared here and the Springfield News-Leader in March 2021.
