The New Book is Finally Done!?!
As you know, I’ve been teasing a new book for awhile now. Most glitches are now gone, and we will start shipping soon. The good news is that the book is DONE and is being printed as we speak!! The bad news is that it seems to be stuck in the supply chain quicksand, and I’m still at least a week (or likely more?) away from receiving my own first copies, though it’s already “available” on Amazon and Barnes & Noble!)
Partly to build interest and suspense, but mostly due to ongoing glitches, I’ve been somewhat quiet on this one. If you don’t know what I’ve been working on, you’ll never guess. It’s my third entirely new topic, but it’s one I’ve been interested in (and inspired by) for over a decade.
The small Chinese book The Tao Te Ching is a book about “The Way of things”. It’s essentially a non-religious “manual for everyday living” [Stephen Mitchell, one of the translators used], as practical in today’s 21st century as it was in China in 500 BC. It’s been translated more than any other book in the world except the Bible. A practical side-effect of this (and the Chinese language itself) is that transations can be extremely – sometimes frustratingly – different, especially to this interested reader.
LONG STORY SHORT: In a(nother?) time of temporary insanity, over a year ago, I decided that someone should complile a side-by-side collection of some of these to provide a larger variety of perspectives on this classic’s verses. And lo and behold, this book is the result of that insanity. I don’t expect a large audience for this, of course :-), but I’ve had fun [or sorts!] working on it – it’s been a labor of love as well as pain.
