I have recently become acquainted with Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes. They are most interesting. For a quick overview, I quote directly from their Wikipedia entry:
Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes (OLLI) offer noncredit courses with no assignments or grades to “seasoned” adults over age 50. Since 2001 philanthropist Bernard Osher has made grants from his foundation to launch OLLI programs at 120 universities and colleges in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
If such a thing interests you, you might check your nearest university to see if they sponsor the program. (Odds are they do) The classes are all short, very wide-ranging, and look very interesting.
I mention this in order to share that I will be teaching a couple of Osher classes this Spring, BOTH at the KU Osher campus (in Overland Park, KS), and at the MU Osher campus in Columbia, MO. I’m doing this mostly for fun, and because I’ll enjoy getting back into a classroom setting in what appears to be ideal environments. But, of course, it will also help promote awareness for my new books. 🙂
The two classes I’m teaching (one at KU, both at MU) are Math is Not a Four-Letter Word and Rollin’ Down the River. Both classes are short (one day a week, 3 or 4 meetings, depending on location) and should be fun.
