“Gates of the Mountains”
A distinctive and beautiful stretch of the Missouri River, north of Helena, MT. In his journal entry of July 19, 1805, Lewis wrote of this spot ” . . . from the singular appearance of this place I called it the gates of the rocky mountains”. A similar name persists, and daily tours allow visits to this pristine area in the Helena National Forest. Taken on July 31, 2016.
