The Hunt for One Historic Bridge – The Discovery of Twins!
Even before I left Branson, one of my guide/contacts in Three Falls, MT, had sent me a picture of Snowden Bridge near the MT/ND border. He related having grown up near there. Given my interest in bridges, I mentioned it to him when I met him in Great Falls. He told me it was well off the beaten path and suspected it’d be difficult to find these days. So, naturally, I decided to look, and left time to do so on my transition day from Wolf Point, MT to Williston, ND.
Long story short: I was successful, and in the process, also discovered Snowden’s twin bridge – Fairview Bridge – not too far away, crossing the Yellowstone River. The twin bridges, built at roughly the same time, are unique a) in their design, and b) in the fact that they were both obsolete by the time they were completed!!
