Headed North and West:
The Journey Begins

Saturday, July 23:
Made it from Kansas City (KS side – stayed with daughter and son-in-law) to Sioux Falls, SD. Three states along the way (see above), and early views of the River I’ll be tracing later. The first shot below is the River just north of the Missouri/Iowa border. The River itself forms the Iowa/Nebraska border. The second shot is roughly the beginning of that IA/NE border just south of the South Dakota line.

Arrived in Sioux Falls in time to explore their Falls Park – you can see where the city got its name! With a huge dose of good luck and timing, I went by the Sioux Falls airport while the Blue Angels show was going on! Got some good shots! One shot each of the Falls and the Blue Angels below. For more Falls photos, see SiouxFALLS, and see BlueAngels for more shots of them.

Sunday, July 24:
Left Sioux Falls early, with temperature down to 68, after hitting 95 when I arrived yesterday. Out on I-90, I pulled off on an exit ramp to get a picture of an early South Dakota morning sun working its way up. A couple of shots of that below:

Crossed the river again in mid-morning, in Chamberlin, SD – I’ll return here on Aug 18, coming south with the river, rather than having to settle for crossing it again. Two more shots below:

Highlight of the Day: The 40 mile “Badlands Loop” off of I-90, going through Badlands National Park. Amazing scenery and rock formations!! God was definitely ‘showing off’ when He made those! One of my favorites below, and to see more, visit BadlandsNatPark.

That’ll do it for this week!! Remember, I’m still experimenting with format, etc of these reports. Next update may be different again! If you have input, let me know!!
UP NEXT: Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Devil’s Tower, and then (eventually) into Three Forks to begin the ‘official’ trip!!
Keep your thoughts, comments, suggestions, and questions coming.
