Hoover Dam & Lake Mead – Part 1
A shot of Lake Mead from atop Hoover Dam in January ’09. The ‘bleached’ rock makes for more contrast in the shot, but also highlights – even then – the drought problems that still continue to this day in the Southwest. For an opposite-direction view, see directly below. For better views of the dam itself (and an update on the bridge!), see the photos -and story – in Wild Cards.
Both photos (above and below) from the Maine to Alaska collection.
The Colorado River below Hoover Dam – and ‘the bridge’
Note the construction in early ’09 on a new bridge/highway near the dam. The bridge is now a wonder-of-the-world in itself and the highway has greatly improved the Las Vegas/Phoenix driving route. See Wild Cards below for updated bridge shots and a story of the bridge opening in 2010.
